Hartford, Conn. - With the month of October more than halfway finished, this year's sixth Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the volleyball court and the football field. Senior volleyball tri-captain Randi Whitham (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore football kicker Eric Sachse (Jefferson, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Whitham averaged 6.54 assists and 5.31 digs per set in three matches last week, including 41 assists in a 3-2 win over WPI and 33 digs, with 27 assists, in a 3-2 victory against Rhode Island College. Whitham also had 17 assists, two aces, a block, and 15 digs in a 3-0 loss to Connecticut College. She is fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with 8.05 assists per set and leads the squad with a .240 hitting percentage.
Sachse set a new Trinity record with five field goals in five attempts in the 36-28 win over Tufts. He made tries from 28, 34, 20, 25, and 21 yards and converted all three of his PAT tries. Sachse also averaged 58.9 yards per attempt on nine kickoffs. He was named NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance and leads the conference this season in kicking.
