Hartford, Conn. - With less than two weeks left before the end of the fall semester, this year's 13th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the ice and in the water. First-year women's swimmer Samantha McStocker (Weston, Conn.) and sophomore men's hockey forward Barclay Gammill (New Canaan, Conn.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
McStocker swept the backstroke events to lead the Bantams to fifth place in the Hamilton College Women's Swimming and Diving Invitational over the weekend. The rookie won the 100-yard backstroke by 1.39 seconds with a time of 1:01.46 on Friday and the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday by over three seconds with a time of 2:12.63. McStocker was also part of Trinity's 200-yard medley relay team and 200-yard freestyle relay team that both posted fourth-place finishes.
Gammill scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win at No. 5-ranked Hamilton and added the game-tying goal with eight seconds left in the third period of a 3-3 tie at Amherst. Trinity scored three times in the third period to overcome a 3-0 deficit at Amherst. Gammill also assisted the second goal that cut the Mammoth lead to 3-2. The second year player currently has five points on three goals and two assists so far this winter.
