Hartford, Conn. - As the fall air begins to chill, this year's fifth Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the cross country course and football field. Women's cross country junior Samantha Feenstra (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and sophomore football WR Jonathan Girard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Feenstra finished fourth out of over 200 runners to lead the Trinity College women's cross country team to a second place finish at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State last weekend. The Bantams finished with 118 points, behind first place Smith, and 13 points ahead of third-place Mt. Holyoke. Feenstra finished in 18:44.05, just six seconds behind the third-place runner, to lead the way for Trinity.
Girard caught five balls for 151 yards with two scores to help lead the football team to a 44-7 victory over the Hamilton College Continentals. Girard caught a 33-yard touchdown in the second quarter before adding a 52-yard strike in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. He currently leads the NESCAC in receiving with a whopping 151.3 yards per game and has a league-best six receiving touchdowns.
