Hartford, Conn. - Junior captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) went 3-0 with two victories over nationally ranked opponents to lead the Trinity College wrestling team in a quad-match in Oosting Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in Hartford. Joining Trinity was No. 20 Wesleyan University, No. 19 WPI and No. 18 Roger Williams in an eventful day of grappling. Trinity fell to Wesleyan, 33-11 in the day's first match before dropping duals to WPI, 30-9, and Roger Williams, 33-6, but the Bantams saw solid individual performances throughout the day.

Sorensen, the third-ranked wrestler at 149-pounds in New England, defeated Wesleyan's Carter Armendarez (Temecula, Calif.) in team's first dual of the day. Armendarez, ranked No. 2 in New England, fell to Sorensen by a 3-2 score in a tough matchup. Sophomore Lukas Kaminski (Hopkinton, Mass.) dominated his Wesleyan opponent, earning a 16-1 technical fall, while rookie Evan Frank (South Salem, N.Y.) picked up Trinity's third win of the Wesleyan dual with a 9-4 decision at 184-pounds. Kaminski wrestled up a weight class for the day at 165 and had a strong showing.

Sorensen earned a 5-1 decision against his WPI counterpart in the second dual of the day. Sophomore Stephen Cerrone (Quechee, Vt.) won the first of two matches on the afternoon with a hard-fought, 2-1 victory over WPI's Mike Ilic (Parsippany, N.J.) at 174. Cerrone picked up another one-point victory in the final dual of the day, this one a 6-5 win against his opponent from Roger Williams. Junior Mason Sangillo (Florham Park, N.J.) earned a victory for Trinity at 285 with a 6-3 decision, and Sangillo won, 4-3, against national contender Justin Cochran.

In the afternoon's other matches, No. 18 Roger Williams and No. 19 WPI started the day with some dramatics as WPI climbed back from a 15-0 deficit to earn a 19-15 victory. The Hawks won the dual's first five contests before the Engineers stormed back, clinching the victory at the heavyweight bout as Austin Shrewsbury (Westfield, Mass.) defeated Adam Patsun (Somers, Conn.), 2-1.

Roger Williams bounced back though with another close match, this time finding themselves on the right side of a 22-18 victory over No. 20 Wesleyan. The Hawks took a commanding 19-3 lead after a pin at 165 by Tyler Gazaway (New Providence, N.J.) before Wesleyan won the final three-of-four bouts to make the final score closer.

The most exciting match of the day came last as Wesleyan downed WPI on a third criteria tiebreaker after the dual ended in a 21-21 tie. Both sides traded victories in the first four matches to start tied, 6-6. Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) and Brendan Marion (Norristown, Pa.) won back-to-back bouts by pin at 157 and 165, respectively, to give the Engineers an 18-6 lead. After a WPI win at 184, Wesleyan won two-straight, highlighted by New England's top 197 grappler, Devon Carrillo (Middletown, Pa.) knocking off the No. 4-ranked grappler at the same weight in Mike Curtis (Wells, Maine), 6-1. Isaiah Bellamy (Bozrah, Conn.) worked his second pin of the day at 285 to tie the match before the Cardinals were awarded the victory thanks to the tiebreaker.
