Trinity's Second-Varsity Eight Wins Against Jefferson and Amherst

Worcester, Mass. - The Trinity College second-varsity eight won a three-boat race against Division II Jefferson University and Amherst College in women's rowing action this morning on Lake Quinsigamond.  The Bantam boat posted a time of 8:06.305 to best second-place Jefferson by over 6.5 seconds.  Trinity's varsity eight came in second against a crowded field of six crews, recording a time of 7:47.508 and finishing over four seconds faster than Amherst but almost 18 seconds behind first-place Jefferson.  Division II opponents Assumption, Merrimack, and Franklin Pierce finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.  Two Trinity fours also raced against multiple teams and each finished in fifth place.

"We had a strong end to our regular season," said Trinity Head Coach Heather Barney. "Our 2V8 again provided the highlight with a victory over Amherst and Jefferson. In the 1V8, we were unable to keep up with Division II Jefferson, but were able to defeat New England rivals Amherst, Assumption, Merrimack and Franklin Pierce. Our fours had a challenging day, but learned some important lessons about racing that will serve them well through the remainder of the season.  We’re feeling good about our progress over the regular season, and are excited to be heading into championship season, starting with the New England Championships next Saturday."
