Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Williams in NESCAC Opener

Williamstown, Mass. - The top-ranked Williams College Ephs jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead and never looked back to come away with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Trinity College women's soccer team on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action in Williamstown. The Bantams fall to 0-2 on the year while Williams improves to 2-0 overall. Trinity returns to the pitch next Saturday for another road tilt, this time at Hamilton.

After 25 minutes of first half action, Sydney Jones scored twice within 1:42 to put the hosts up 2-0. Sarah Hollinger added Williams' third tally of the half at 40:22 to give the hosts a commanding three goal advantage as the teams entered the half. Williams recorded ten shots in the first 45 minutes while holding the Bantams to just two.

At 62:29, Trinity rookie Whitney Hoban (Winnetka, Ill.) fired the ball into the back of the net off an assist from junior Kelly Lucas (Ludlow, Mass.) for her first career goal. The score cut the deficit to two, however that's as close as Trinity came. The Ephs outshot the Bantams 15-3 in the second half as goalie Olivia Barnhill needed to make just two saves in the victory. Bantam rookie Lilianna Khoswowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) made five saves in net in her collegiate debut.
