Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Takes Fourth At Hamilton Invitational

Clinton, N.Y. - First-year Zoryanna Matlashewski (Anoka, Minn.) won the 400-yard individual medley to lead the Trinity College Bantams to fourth place as a squad at the Hamilton College Women's Swimming and Diving Invitational this weekend. The Bantams totaled 1,008 points to finish just four points shy of third-place Oswego State and 21 points better than fifth-place Oneonta State in a 10-team field.  The host Continentals won the team title with 1,814 points.

On Friday, Bantam first-year Olivia Fournier (Southington, Conn.) had finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.38, while Matlashewski added a third-place time of 5:23.69 in the 500-yard freestyle, and teamed with Fournier, sophomore Katherine Greer (Summit, N.J.), and first-year Aurelia Umholtz (Flagstaff, Ariz.) for a third-place time of 8:15.72 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.  Also in relays, the three rookies and sophomore Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.) came in fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay.  Sophomore Lia Urban-Spillane (Rochester, N.Y.) highlighted the Trinity diving with a sixth-place showing off the one-meter board.

Urban-Spillane shined today in the three-meter diving with a second-place score of 236.25, while Fournier was third in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.52, and Matlashewski placed third in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:14.57.  Ly added fifth-place performances in both the 100- and 20-yard breaststroke races, and two Bantam relay foursomes earned third place in today's sessions.  Greer, Fournier, Umholtz, and sophomore Grace Gorman () were third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.91, and Gorman combined with rookies Fournier, Matlashewski, and Erin Murphy () posted a third-place time of 3:48.59 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

"We are off to great start with 95 percent of the men's and women's teams performing season bests," said Trinity Head Coach Carlos Vega.
