Trinity Women's Indoor Track and Field Dominates at Season Opening Snowflake Invitational

Northampton, Mass. - Sophomore Katie Marlow-Benedick (Weston, Mass.), junior Anna Barnes (Storrs, Conn.) and sophomore Katie Lazur (East Hanover, N.J.) each turned in first-place performances to lead the Trinity College women's indoor track and field squad at the Snowflake Invitational on Saturday to open the 2017-18 indoor season. 

Marlow-Benedick, first-year Emma Buckley (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Morgan Hallow (Charlotte, N.C.) finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 60-meter dash as the trio was separated by just .43 seconds. Marlow-Benedick turned in a dominant 7.93 finals time while Buckley finished in 8.15 and Hallow in 8.36. Marlow-Benedick also finished first in the 200-meter dash, followed this time by Hallow in second and Buckley in third, while sophomore Katherine Bullock (Cape Neddick, Maine) finished fourth. 

Barnes and senior Sara Curtis (Milton, Mass.) took the top-two spots in the mile run while junior Lauren Barrett (Peabody, Mass.) finished fourth and rookie Julia Burdulis (Hopkinton, Mass.) claimed sixth. Barnes turned in a 5:18.29 finals time, over 15 seconds ahead of the field while Curtis finished behind her at 5:33.37. Barrett, returning to action after an injury this fall, didn't miss a beat as she crossed the finish line at 5:42.24. Burdulis finished just four seconds behind Barrett in an impressive collegiate debut.

Lazur won the 400-meter dash in a finish decided by just .20 seconds while classmate Hannah Neufield (Burlington, Mass.) finished less than two seconds behind her in fourth-place. Sophomore Rachel Scheub (Rochester, Mass.) took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.96 while the Bantam 4x200-relay team claimed second, just 0.92 seconds behind Assumption's first-place squad.
