Volleyball Weekly Preview

THIS WEEK: The Trinity College volleyball went 2-1 last week to improve to 10-11 overall as they enter the final week of the regular season. This weekend, Trinity travels to Amherst on Friday before traveling to Williams on Saturday for the regular season finale.

Amherst Series History: Amherst holds a commanding 5-44 record in the all-time series that dates back to 1985.

Recent history against the Purple & White: Trinity was swept by Amherst last season in Hartford.

Williams Series History: Williams is 37-5 all-time against Trinity dating back to 1985.

Recent history against the Ephs:​ Williams knocked off the Bantams, 3-0, last season at Trinity.


- Sophomore Rachel Underwood leads the conference with 38 service aces on the season. The California native is also second in service aces per set (0.51), just .03 off the lead. Underwood has put together an impressive sophomore campaign so far, tallying 119 kills (3rd on team) and 239 digs (1st on team). Underwood represented Trinity on the Hall of Fame Invitational All-Tournament Team.

- Senior tri-captain Randi Whitham averaged 8.8 assists, 0.45 aces, and 4.36 digs per set last week in the Hall of Fame Invitational. She notched 26 assists, two aces, and 23 digs in a 3-1 loss to UMass Boston, contributed 44 assists, two aces, and 13 digs in a 3-1 win over SUNY Canton, and added 27 assists, two aces, and 12 digs in a 3-0 win against Emmanuel.

- First-year Colette Scheffers leads the team with 171 kills this season. Scheffers notched a career-high 18 kills in the team's victory over SUNY-Canton with a .245 hitting percentage. Sophomore Hanna Engstrom is second on the team with 152 kills after tallying 13 against WPI and 11 against SUNY-Canton.

- Against SUNY-Canton, junior Claudia Varner had 11 kills with a .346 hitting percentage and three blocks, and rookie Wyllie Boughton added 10 kills, four aces, and 18 digs for the Bantams.

- The Bantams are averaging 10.30 kills per set and 1.42 blocks per set after averaging 10.41 kills per set and 0.92 blocks per set last season.
