Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams pulled out a pair of marathon volleyball matches at home on Senior Day in Oosting Gymnasium this afternoon, edging the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers and the Rhode Island College Anchormen by 3-2 scores in a tri-match.  Trinity pulled out the fifth set against WPI with a 5-13 victory and scored final six points against the Anchormen to turn a 14-10 deficit into a 16-14 triumph.  Rhode Island College won the middle match, 3-1, over WPI.  Trinity is now 8-10, while WPI finishes the day at 17-6 and Rhode Island College is 9-10.

Against WPI, Trinity lost the first set, 25-21, but used a 9-0 run in the middle of the second set to win, 25-19.  The Bantams battled to a 27-25 win in the third set,  but Worcester Tech responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.  The Engineers held a 13-11 lead in the final set, but the Bantams ended the match with four points in a row.  Sophomore Hannah Engstrom (Hopkinton, Mass.) had a team-high 13 kills and two blocks, while first-year Wyllie Boughton (Andover, Mass.) added 10 kills, 24 digs, and two blocks, senior tri-captain MH Rachel Hughes (Boxborough, Mass.) contributed nine kills with a .364 hitting percentage, three aces, and three blocks, and first-year Colette Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) added nine kills, 20 digs, and two blocks for the Bantams.  Trinity senior tri-captain S Randi Whitham (Weymouth, Mass.) amassed 41 assists, 21 digs, three aces, and three blocks, and sophomore Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) paced the defense with 29 digs.  Casey Hunt paced WPI with a game-high 15 digs, while Victoria Nassar had 32 digs, and Brooke Kiepper registered seven kills and six blocks.

Engstrom and Scheffers led the way against Rhode Island College with 11 kills apiece, as Trinity won the second set, 25-16, the third set, 25-19, and the fifth set, 16-14.  The Anchormen took the opening set, 25-15, and the fourth, 25-20.  Whitham added 27 more assists and a game-high 33 digs, while junior Claudia Varner (Port Washington, N.Y.) had six blocks.  Courtney Lambrese recorded 11 kills and Megan Armburg added 27 digs for Rhode Island College.  Jillian Ward had 20 kills and 20 digs in Rhode Island College's win over WPI.  Set scores were, 25-16, 17-25, 25-23, 26-24.
