Trinity Volleyball Beaten At Bowdoin

Brunswick, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams suffered a 3-0 setback against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball action this evening at Morrell Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 8-5 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin, ranked No. 3 in New England, improves to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the league with its fifth-consecutive victory.  Set scores were 25-19, 25-17, 25-14.  The Bantams play at NESCAC rival Tufts tomorrow at 1 p.m. in their next match, while the Polar Bears host Amherst tomorrow at the same time.

In the first set, Trinity trailed by just a point at 19-18 after a kill by rookie Ally Conde (Danielson, Conn.), but Bowdoin closed it out with a 6-1 run.  The Polar Bears kept their momentum and jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the second set en route to an easy victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.  Bowdoin remained tough on its home floor with a wire-to-wire win in the third set. 

Trinity junior OH Colette Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) gave a stellar effort on the attack with a team-high 10 kills and a .250 hitting percentage, while senior co-captain OH Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) added seven kills.  Junior L Ali Odermann (Lenexa, Kansas) paced the Bantam defense with a team-high 10 digs, while sophomore S Jessica Yang (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was steady all-around with 14 assists, nine digs, and a pair of blocks.
