Wendy Bartlett begins her 40th year as head coach of the Trinity College women's squash team in 2023-24, following an incredible campaign last winter that saw the Bantams tie the program record for wins with an 18-1 mark with the single loss coming by a score of 5-4 against Harvard University in the College Squash Association (CSA) Howe Cup Championship Finals. Bartlett, who also guided Trinity to its 16th-consecutive New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship (NESCAC) title in 2022-23, has compiled an impressive record of 456-1117 for a .796 winning percentage with the Bantams.
Bartlett's charges went 15-2 and finished third in the 2021-22 Howe Cup. In 2018-19, the Bantams reached the Howe Cup Finals with a 17-3 record and the squad was 15-3 and added another a runner-up finish in the Howe Cup in 2017-18. Bartlett guided Trinity to its third Howe Cup crown in 2014, back to the national finals a year later in 2015, and to third-place finishes in 2016 and 2017. Bartlett was honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2022-23, and has coached 59 different players who have earned All-American squash honors including five last season. She was inducted into the CSA Hall of Fame in February of 2019.
In 2013-14, Trinity topped Harvard, 5-4, to win their first national title since claiming back-to-back in 2002 and 2003. The victory over the Crimson, which avenged a defeat in the 2013 finals, put an exclamation point on a tremendous campaign for Trinity. The Bantams opened its slate with 11 straight victories, including eight shutouts, and finished 16-1 in dual matches with the lone setback coming at Harvard in early February. Trinity won back-to-back Howe Cup titles in 2002 and 2003, playing perfect for the two-year stretch with a 25-0 record, and finished as the Howe Cup Runner-Up in 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2015.
Bartlett earned her bachelor's degree in history and political science from Rollins College and obtained her master's degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University. Before coming to Trinity, she was the director of racquet sports at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. A professor at the College, Bartlett also served as Trinity's women's tennis head coach from 1984 to 2015 and posted a 249-169-1 record with that program. Bartlett was elected to serve on the Coaches Advisory Committee for the CSA in 2019 and 2020. She emphasizes hard work and perseverance during drills, conditioning, competition and developing the tactical and strategic skills that each player can apply in competitive situations.
