Hartford Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams posted a 9-0 shutout in their men's squash home opener against the visiting Dartmouth College Big Green this afternoon at Kellner Center. The top-ranked and defending National Champion Bantams improve to 6-0 and Dartmouth, ranked No. 10 nationally, drops to 6-3. Trinity hits the home courts again tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Middlebury.
Six Trinity players won by 3-0 scores including sophomore Kush Kumar (Chennai, India) who downed No. 12-ranked Big Green senior Alvin Heumann (Southport, Conn.), 11-5, 11-8, 11-5, at the top of the ladder. No. 10-ranked senior tri-captain Rick Penders (Maastricht, Netherlands) eked out a 3-2 win against Dartmouth junior Matt Giegerich (Wyndmoor, Pa.), rallying back from a 2-1 deficit to take the fourth game, 12-10, and the fifth, 11-5, in the No. 3 position.
