Trinity Women's Indoor Track and Field Performs Well in First Meet of Year

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Trinity College women's indoor track and field team opened up its 2021-22 season at Smith College Saturday in the Smith Winter Classic. The Bantams next compete Saturday, Jan. 15 returning to Smith College for the Smith Pioneer Invitational.

Sophomore Kennedy Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) led a strong Trinity 4x400 that won handily with a time of 4:13.20 finishing 10 seconds ahead of second place relay team Smith College. Mullen also clocked a 59.70 second first-place time in the Open 400 meter Dash.

Junior Abbie Wager (Middleboro, Mass.) placed second in the 1000 meter with a time of 3:21.51 while Katelyn Fecteau (Mount Hermon, Mass.) also earned a second place nod with a 4.79 meter long jump, just missing first place by one tenth of a meter. Berit Schuveiller made a nice transition from the cross country grass to the indoor track, placing fourth in the 3000 meter run (11:31.23).

In the throws, senior Kamila Zygadlo (Wroclaw, Poland) made finals in the weight throw while sophomore Tiara Oginsanya (River Forest, Ill.) also qualified in the shot put.

"Great energy to start the season and some strong performances," said Trinity Head Coach John Michael Mason. "Always nice to get a sense of where you are and what you can build on as a team. These men and women are ready to have a fun winter on the track."
