Hartford, Conn.. – The Trinity College women's track & field program opened up its 2021 season with a fourth-place finish at the Connecticut College Quad Meet Saturday afternoon. In its first outdoor contest since 2019, the team saw a handful of impressive performances in its season opener.
The Bantams saw numerous first-place finishes Saturday afternoon. Senior Emma Buckley (Hanover, Mass.) started the team off with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 25.76. In the 400-meter dash, first-year Cate Kneebone (Winchester, Mass.) took her first collegiate victory with a time of 1:00.75. The 4x400 meter relay team of Buckley, first-year Kennedy Mullen (Wilder, Vt.), and sophomores Julianna Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) and Christina Alcaro (Marshfield, Mass.) won with 12 seconds to spare with a time of 4:11.95.
In the field, sophomore Kamila Zygadlo (Wroclaw, Poland) took first with a 30.72-meter throw in the discus; she also took third in the hammer throw. First-year Gabriella Grattan (Milton, Mass.) placed second in the high jump during her first ever collegiate meet, reaching a height of 1.65 meters.
The Bantams will take the week off before returning to the track on Jessee/Miller Field for its first home meet in two years. Trinity will host Connecticut College, Tufts, and Wesleyan on Saturday, April 24.
