Men's Tennis Outdueled by Bates

Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Tennis team lost its first match of the season Sunday, falling to the Bates College Bobcats by a final score of 6-3. The Bantams fall to 2-1 on the season after winning its NESCAC opener against Connecticut College Saturday. The team is back in action on Saturday, April 24th, hosting conference rival Colby College at 2 p.m.

The Bantams trailed early as they dropped two out of the three doubles matches. Trinity's first and second doubles teams lost tight matches 6-8 and 5-8, respectively. Senior Granville Kaynor (New Orleans, L.A.) and Junior Charles Kilborn (Winnetka, I.L.) fought back to grind out a 8-7 (8-6) win in a tiebreaker at third doubles.

Singles play was also very close. Granville Kaynor and Henry Bilicic (Del Mar, C.A.) lost tight matches that ended in tiebreakers at first and fourth singles, respectively. Junior Ross Derose (Buffalo, N.Y.) edged out Bates' Leo Kupferman 7-5, 7-6 (5) in a match won by his kick serve and heavy forehand. Charles Kilborn won the last match of the day for the Bantams at fifth singles. With steady baseline play throughout the match, he posted a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win.
