Hartford, Conn. - Rowing legend Larry Gluckman, who coached some of Trinity College best-ever crews as the program's head coach from 2004 to 2009, passed away on Tuesday, March 30 at the age of 72.  Former Trinity rower, Stephanie Apstein, wrote a beautiful piece in Sports Illustrated in memory of Coach Gluckman.  Gluckman is survived by his wife Sara and daughters Meg, Kate, and Anna.

Gluckman was responsible for Trinity's rapid ascension to elite status among the nation's small college crews, having guided the varsity eight to a 42-4 record in dual races during his tenure. Gluckman-coached Trinity crews won two ECAC National Invitational gold medals and one ECAC silver medal, three gold medals at the Head of the Charles Regatta, four New England Rowing Championship titles and four NESCAC Championship crowns. The Joy of Sculling Collegiate Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007, Gluckman gained international renown for the College when his varsity eight crew won the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2005 and earned a silver medal in the same event the following summer.

Prior to Trinity, Gluckman was the head coach at Columbia, Dartmouth, and Princeton, and then moved to Northern Vermont to work for Concept2 Rowing. He has remained connected to the sport, developing competitive rowing programs at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Vermont.  

"The outpouring of support we have received already for Coach Gluckman has been overwhelming," said Trinity Head Men's Rowing Coach Kevin MacDermott, an assistant to Gluckman with the Bantams. "It is amazing to see how many athletes whose lives he has changed for the better throughout his amazing career."
