Women's Track & Field Takes Third at Tufts

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College women's track & field program wrapped up its 2021 regular season with a third place finish at the Tufts Quad Meet, taking on Wesleyan, Connecticut College, and the Jumbos for the third time this season. Trinity was nipped by first-place Tufts and Wesleyan, finishing with 104 points on the day. The Bantams continue to improve, with numerous first-place finishes on the afternoon.

Trinity dominated the 400-meter dash, with senior Emma Buckley (Hanover, Mass.) taking first with a finish of 59.61 seconds; first-year Cate Kneebone (Winchester, Mass.) placed right behind her with a time of 1:00.30. Buckley also took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29, with Kneebone placing fourth. Senior Julia Burdulis (Hopkinton, Mass.) crossed the line with a time of 4:53.23 in the 1,500 meter run, which was good for second overall.

In the field, the Bantams consistently saw top-two results in a handful of events. First-year Dahlia Galante (Marblehead, Mass.) took second in the javelin throw, tossing a final distance of 31.75 meters. Sophomore Kamila Zygadlo (Wroclaw, Poland) took first in the discus with a distance of 31.73 meters, and threw 35.18 meters for a second-place finish in the hammer throw. First-year Gabby Grattan (Milton, Mass.) took second in the high jump, notching a height of 1.63 meters.

"We are proud of how our Bantams fought this season and never lost hope through the ups and downs of the pandemic," said Head Coach John Michael Mason. "The men and women had such positive energy at practice and especially at competition. Every meet has felt special in this abbreviated season. Today was the last day we had the whole group together, and we look forward to taking many of our top athletes to meets over the next couple weeks and through to the national championships at the end of May."
