HARTFORD, CONN. - The Trinity College Bantams suffered their first loss of the season, 6-3, against top-ranked Harvard in women's squash action this evening at Kellner Center. Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) and rookies Janna El Ashmawy (Alexandria, Egypt) and Lujan Palacios (Asuncion, Paraguay) won for the Bantams.
Harvard opened up a 3-1 lead early with wins by Hana Moataz, Amina Yousry, and Habiba El Defrawy. El Ashmawy got the Bantams on the board with an exciting victory at the bottom of the ladder. She won the first two sets by 11-6 scores, lost the third by the same score, and was edged by Harvard's Brecon Welch, 12-10, in the fourth. Ashmawy returned the favor with a 12-10 triumph in the fifth set to make it, 3-1. Usenko swept her opponent, 3-0, at No. 7 in the lineup and Palacios outlasted Harvard's Evie Coxon, 3-2, with an 11-7 win in the clinching set to keep Trinity alive, but Amira Singh won at the eighth position for Harvard's fifth point. Sahari Lopez (Zappopan, Mexico) put up a great fight in the No. 5 spot, before succumbing to Serena Daniel, 3-2, in the final match of the evening.
