Trinity Men's Rowing Wins Fours Race At Head Of The Riverfront

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College men's rowing team entered three eights in the Open 8 race at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta on the Connecticut River this afternoon to open the 2022-23 season.  The Bantam crew placed third, ninth, and 15th in the race with the top-finishing Trinity boat posting a time of 11:42.93.  Tufts won the race at 11:23.72 and Wesleyan was second at 11:37.81.  In fours, one of Trinity's two boats won the open race with a time of 13:38.43 and its other boat was seventh.  The Bantams will compete in the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in Shelton, Conn. on Saturday.

"The Head of the Riverfront is a great opportunity for us to test our early-season speed," said Trinity Head Coach Kevin MacDermott. "It was a windy day on the river and all of our athletes performed well on the race course.  The Varsity put up a nice effort finishing 3rd, the Freight 8 (all first-year athletes) had a great race, and our 3rd Varsity continued to develop their speed with some strong strokes on the course.  The afternoon racing was also outstanding.  The boys raced doubles, quads, and fours with event wins in all 3 categories, including head-to-head intra-squad clashes in the double and quad.  In the Open 4, our entry consisting of 5 sophomores won boathouse bragging rights by defeating the Frosh 4 and a well-seasoned entry from Palm Beach; no doubt these crews will face off again in the future.  Racing concluded with a hard-fought race featuring a Mixed 8 with 4 members of the Women's team racing with 4 members of the Men's team.  It was awesome to see this crew power down the course to finish out a great day of racing."
