Trinity Men's Rowing Takes Top Two In Fours Races At Head Of The Housatonic

SHELTON, Conn. - Trinity College men's rowing took first and second place in the open fours race, as the Bantams competed in the Head of the Housatonic Regatta this afternoon at Indian Wells State Park.  The first Bantam four posted a time of 15:56.8 to win by over 15 seconds, followed by the second Trinity boat at 16:13.3 to take second place by 18.5 seconds.  In eights, the Bantam varsity came in 13th place among a field of Division I boats in the IRA race, while Trinity's second and third eights placed third and 10th, respectively, in the non-IRA event.

"It was a great day of racing and learning," said Trinity Head Coach Kevin MacDermott.  "The varsity eight stepped up and had a strong race in the Division I IRA event.  They had a great experience on the race course, mixing it up with some of the best crews in the country from Yale, Brown, and Northeastern.  The second varsity were fantastic finishing third in the non-IRA event behind strong crews from George Washington University.  Along with the third Varsity in the same event, we had two young, aggressive crews put down solid, competitive pieces in challenging conditions."

The Bantams will race next in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, October 16, followed by the Head of the Charles Regatta the following weekend to close out the fall campaign.

"In afternoon racing we had three entries in the Open 4 event, MacDermott added.  "The sophomore four won the Open 4 event in Hartford last week and had another solid piece finishing second today.  The winning four, steered by captain Liam O'Connor, with fellow captains Chad Obrey and Quin Woods, pulling with Nicholas Roll and first-year rower Wyatt Mills, took the gold with a great piece.  We'll get back to work for the final stretch of time on the water, aiming to maximize our time together before heading into winter training."
