Jana Safy (Cairo, Egypt) allowed just nine total points in the second spot in the lineup to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 9-0 win over the Tufts University Jumbos in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Squash Championship finals this afternoon at Hamilton College's Little Courts. Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the nation and seeded No. 1 in the tournament, improves to 13-1 with its sixth victory in a row. No. 2-seeded Tufts falls to 8-4 with their second 9-0 loss to the Bantams in 11 days. Trinity has won all 15 NESCAC titles in the event's history, while the Jumbos were appearing in their first NESCAC finals.
Trinity won eight matches by 3-0 scores and 26 of 27 matches in the tournament by a 3-0 count. Today's match was a rout with five matches finished in 16 minutes or less and none lasting more than 28 minutes. Safy won, 11-4, 11-3, 11-2,, while fellow Bantam rookie
Malak Moustafa won at the top of the ladder, 11-1, 11-5, 11-4. Trinity seniors Sarahi Lopez (Zappopan, Mexico) and
Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) posted 3-0 victories in their final NESCAC Championships matches.
