Trinity's Wilkie And Martin Score At NCAA Division III Men's Track And Field Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Ethan Wilkie (Eliington, Conn.) finished seventh in the shot put and junior Travis Martin (New Haven, Conn.) was eighth in the 800-meter run, as the Trinity College men's track and field team closed the 2021-22 indoor season in the NCAA Division III Championship Meet at JDL Fastrack this weekend.  Wilkie earned two points for the Bantams with his toss of 51'11.25" meters and Martin finished the 800-meter finals with a time of 2:08.19.  The Bantams tied Johns Hopkins, St. John's (Minn.), and Whittier for 52nd place in the team standings.  Washington (Mo.) and Wisc.- Eau Claire tied for the team title with 35 points apiece.  

Wilkie closed the winter with a heave just .06 meters shy of his own Bantam record set last weekend.  Martin recorded the sixth-fastest preliminary time of 1:53.51 to qualify for the finals and earned Trinity's third point with his eighth-place finish in the finals.  Trinity senior captain Kinnard Hughes (Chicago, Ill.), who qualified for the NCAA Championships as the No. 20 seed of 20, finished ninth and just .05 meters short of scoring in the triple jump with a distance of 14.52 meters.  On Friday, Trinity's distance medley relay, consisting of Martin, senior Tim Lautenbach (Weston, Conn.), junior Kai Bailin (Shutesbury, Mass.), and sophomore Toby L'Esperance (Florence. Mass.) clocked a 12th-place time of 10.21.74.
