Trinity's Martin And Wilkie Receive Men's Track And Field All-American Honors

Eight Bantams Collect USTFCCCA All-Region Recognition

HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College men's indoor track and field junior Travis Martin (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Ethan Wilkie (Ellington, Conn.) were each named as United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Americans thanks to their outstanding performances in the NCAA Division III Championship Meet in Winston-Salem, N.C. over the weekend.  Wilkie finished seventh in the shot put and Martin was eighth in the 800-meter run on the JDL Fastrack.  Wilkie earned two points for the Bantams with his toss of 51'11.25" meters and Martin finished the 800-meter finals with a time of 2:08.19.  Wilkie closed the winter with a heave just .06 meters shy of his own Bantam record set the previous weekend.  Martin recorded the sixth-fastest preliminary time of 1:53.51 to qualify for the finals and earned Trinity's third point with his eighth-place finish in the finals.  

Earlier this winter, Trinity boasted eight members on te USTFCCCA Mideast All-Region Team thanks to their fine performances during the winter season. All-Region distinction is awarded to the top five individuals in each event from each region. Senior captain Kinnard Hughes (Chicago, Ill.), classmates Robert Allen (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Tim Lautenbach (Weston, Conn.), juniors Kai Bailin (Shutesbury, Mass.) and Martin, and sophomores Toby L'Esperance (Florence, Mass.), Justin O'Neil-Riley (Dorchester, Mass.), and Wilkie were each named to the USTFCCCA All-Region squad.  Trinity, coached by John Michael Mason, finished eighth in the New England Division III Championship Meet in February.

Hughes earned All-Region honors in both the long jump and the triple jump, posting distances of 6.92 meters and 14.39 meters, respectively.  Hughes qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship Meet this weekend in the triple jump and finished just .05 m shy of eighth-place and All-American recognition.  Allen repeated on the All-Region team in the 60-meter dash thanks to his season-best time of 6.99, while O'Neil-Riley collected his honor due to his season-long leap of 6.88 meters in the long jump.  Wilkie received All-Region accolades in the shot put for a Trinity-record toss of 15.89 meters.

Bailin and Martin were All-Region awardees in multiple categories and the pair teamed with Lautenbach and L'Esperance to garner the honor in the distance medley relay.  Bailin posted top-five performances of 21.92 in the 200-meter dash and 49.52 in the 400-meter dash.  Martin was All-Region in four events with times of 1:51.18 in the 800-meter run (new Trinity record), 4:12.95 in the mile run, and 8:21.76 in the 3,000-meter run.  Trinity's distance medley relay earned All-Region thanks to their season-best time of 9:58.09.  The DMR finished 12th in the NCAA Division III Championship Meet.
