Trinity Wrestling Wins Over WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore captain Chris Perry (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and senior Nico Patch (Lake Oswego, Ill.) earned back-to-back pins to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 24-21 victory over the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers in a wrestling tri-match this afternoon.  Trinity, which also lost, 51-3, against Johnson and Wales (R.I.) and, 24-18, versus Roger Williams, is now 6-3. Bantam seniors Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) and Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.), Schaeublin and Perry won twice today for the Bantams, who will get ready for the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals Championships on Sunday, January 22 at Springfield College.

Trinity trailed, 9-0, after the two lightest weight classes when rookie 141-pounder Adam Schaeublin (Salem, Mass.) earned a 14-8 decision to put the Bantams on the scoreboard.  Perry pinned his opponent in 3:38 and Perry did the same in 2:48 to give Trinity a 15-9 lead but Mario Barberio pinned Lykskawa to tie the score at 15-all.  Bantam sophomore Adam Frost (Bennington, Vt.) won, 7-5, in sudden victory over WPI 174-pounder Adam Marsh, followed by hard-fought victories by rookie Cooper Kelley (Sandown, N.H.) at 184 pounds and Klass at 197 pounds to make the score, 24-15.  The Engineers collected their final six points with a pin in the heavyweight bout.

Lyskawa collected the lone Bantam points against the Johnson and Wales Wildcats with a 6-3 win at 165 pounds.  Against Roger Williams, Klass earned a win by technical fall to collect five points and tie the match, 18-18, but Addison Boisvert pinned Glynn in the heavyweight match to clinch the team victory for Roger Williams.  Schaeublin won, 16-6, at 141 pounds, Perry blanked his opponent at 149 pounds, 2-0, and Lyskawa pinned his adversary in just nine seconds for the Bantams against the Hawks.
