PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior captain
Nouran Youssef (Smouha, Egypt) edged Drexel's Karina Tyma, 3-2, in the deciding match, to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 5-4 victory over the Drexel University Dragons in women's squash action this evening at Kline & Specter Center. Top-ranked Trinity remains unbeaten at 9-0, while the Dragons suffer their first loss and fall to 7-1. The Bantams return home for weekend matches against No. 6-ranked Cornell and No. 8-ranked Columbia on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Trinity had lost to Drexel in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships (Howe Cup) last spring.
Trailing, 4-2, two thirds of the way through the match, Trinity needed wins by sophomore
Janna El Ashmawy (Alexandria, Egypt) at the No. 6 spot, first-year
Hannah Chukwu (Tatabanya, Hungary) in the No. 3 match and Youssef at the No. 2 position. El Ashmawy and Chukwu earned 3-0 victories to tie the team scoring at 4-4. Tyma won the first game against Youssef, but the Bantam junior won a close second game, 11-9, and dominated the third game, 11-1. The fourth game barely went Drexel's way, 12-10, but Youssef calmly rebounded and took the clincher, 11-5.
Trinity started strong with a 3-0 win by first-year
Kara Lincou (Le Tampon, Reunion) in the No. 7 match and a 3-1 victory by sophomore Lul Palacios (Asuncion, Paraguay) in the No. 5 match. The Dragons tied it with a pair of wins, including a five-set battle at the top of the ladder that saw Alina Bushma edge Trinity sophomore
Jana Safy (Cairo, Egypt) with an 11-9 win in the fifth game, and continued its momentum with wins at the bottom two spots on the ladder
