Trinity Wrestling Finishes Sixth At NEWA Duals Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Conn. — At the New England Wresting Association Duals Championship hosted by Springfield College, Trinity College wrestlers Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) and Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) posted perfect records at 165 and 197, respectively on Sunday. The Bantams defeated Wesleyan University 25-14 and moved to the quarterfinals to face the eventual champs, Johnson & Wales but were defeated 47-3. In the consolation round, the team outlasted Roger Williams 21-17, but fell to Williams in the fifth-place bout, 28-20, and finished sixth overall. The Navy & Gold host Castleton University and Alvernia University at noon on January 28.

Lyskawa posted a 4-0 record highlighted with a win by technical fall over Ephs wrestler Eamon Garrity Rokous at 7:00 to earn All-Tournament team, while Klass went 3-0 including a win by major decision, 10-0, against Aris Dashiell from Wesleyan.

Trinity was down 7-0 in the opening match against the Cardinals before Adam Schaeublin (Salem, Mass.) at 141 took down Kellen Horst at 2:34 to bring the score within one, 7-6. Chris Perry tacked on three points with a 5-2 sudden victory decision over Jack Wemmlinger to put Trinity up, 9-7. Wesleyan retaliated with three points to take a one point lead before Lyskawa defeated Dario Molino by a 5-0 decision and brought the Bantams up, 12-10. At 174, the Cardinals took a one point lead before Cooper Kelley (Sandown, N.H.), Klass and Timothy Glynn (West Windsor, N.J.) each win their bouts. Kelley won by a 4-3 decision to put the team up, 15-4, before Klass' 10-0 major decision victory padded the lead for Trinity. Glynn had a takedown at 2:22 over Kolton Gagnon to secure the win for the Navy & Gold.

In the consolation round with Roger Williams, the Bantams found themselves on the wrong side of a 11-0 score but Perry's 5-2 win by decision at 149 over Peter Tringali ignited a Bantam rally. Nico Patch (Oswego, Ill.) won by a 6-1 decision at 157 before Lyskawa's 5-1 decision narrowed the deficit to within three. A pin at 157 by Adam Frost (Bennington, Vt.) secured the first match lead for Trinity but RWU went up by a pair at 184. Klass and Glynn etched the win for Trinity with a 7-3 and 13-7 decision at 197 and 285, respectively.

At 141 against Williams in the fifth-place bout, Schaeublin put the Bantams on the board with a 10-6 decision as the team trailed 10-3. At 7:00 Lyskawa's win by technical fall added five points for Trinity as the Ephs led 19-8.
