NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — At the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament hosted by Smith College and Mount Holyoke on Friday, the Trinity College women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals in the " "C" and "D" Draws, including a 3-0 sweep by first-year
Naisha Rathi (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore
Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) picked up victories in singles and doubles play to move into the semifinals on the "C" side during play Sunday afternoon.
Day 1:
Rathi won 8-1 in "C" Singles over Briones, while Brennan posted an 8-0 victory against Bispham in the opening round. The duo completed the sweep with an 8-0 triumph in the "C" Draw Doubles to advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow. In the "B" Draw at the NEWITT, doubles partners
Ella Baker (Gladstone, N.J.) and
Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.) won the first round 8-7 (4). Baker went 8-4 in singles to help the pair advance, 2-1, over Endicott College's Ashley Keaveney and Olivia Martinelli.
Wheaton's Zoe West teamed with Haylee Doiron in the "D" Draw and were defeated, 2-1, by
Kennedy White (Golden, Colo.) and first year
Hellena Trojer (Reading, Mass.). West earned an 8-5 triumph over junior White, 8-5, but Doiron was defeated by Trojer, 8-0. The Trinity duo came up with an 8-2 victory in doubles action to take the pod before dropping the semifinals, 3-0, to Wellesley College's Dalia Fera and Jen Fan.
Doubles partners
Josephine Kimball (New York, N.Y.) and
Angelina Shyltsyna (Odessa, Ukraine) outlasted MIT duo Sophia Min and Katya Shepard Johnson in the first round of the "A" Draw, 8-2, but the seniors both fell, 8-2, in their "A" Singles.
Day 2:
In the "C" draw quarterfinals, Rathi captured an 8-5 win over Shelby Henry of Endicott, while Brennan claimed an 8-5 victory over Endicott's Fitzgibbons. In doubles action, Rathi and Brennan dispatched Henry and Fitzgibbons, 8-6, to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, the Bantams drew a tough matchup with Wellesly College. Rathi fell to Madhusudan, 8-1, while Brennan lost to Emily Pak, 8-3, in singles play. In their doubles match, Madhusudan and Pak collected an 8-3 win over Rathi and Brennan.
In the "B" draw semifinals singles play, Baker fell to Smith's Ayla Hauser, 8-0, while Francis battled to an 8-6 lost against Smith's Arianna Jung. In doubles play, Hauser and Jung outlasted Baker and Francis in bonus sets, 8-7 (7-5).
The NEWITT Tournament wraps up the fall season for the Bantams.
