HARTFORD, Conn. — In the first home game of the year, the Trinity College women's tennis team triumphs over the visiting Smith College Pioneers, 8-1, on Wednesday. Trinity improved to 1-1 overall and Smith dropped to 1-2. The Bantams hits the asphalt at nearby Wesleyan University on March 11 at 10 in the morning.

 No. 1 doubles duo Isabella Hartman (New York, N.Y.) and Josephine Kimball (New York, N.Y.) bested Pioneers' Lili Goshgarian and Clara Goshgarian, 8-5, to notch the second point of the Navy & Gold after Angelina Shyltsyna (Odessa, Ukraine)and first-year Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.) earned an 8-4 win over Olivia Monos and Marielle Sauber at second doubles. Sophomore Ella Baker (Gladstone, N.J.) and First-year Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep for Trinity with a close 8-6 match win over Dayana Caluna and Miranda Gibson at No. 3.

Hartman and Shyltsyna played three sets before claiming the victory at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively. Hartman opened the first set with a 6-4 win, before narrowly losing 5-7 against L. Goshgarian, 7-5. The senior captain rallied back in the third set with a 6-3 win for the third singles point of the match. Shyltsyna recorded a dominate 6-2 win over Sauber to open the match, but fell 6-3 in the second set. For the second singles' point, the junior came back with full force with a 6-1 victory for the match point.
