HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College men's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles and never lost steam to outlast New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Connecticut College, 7-2, at Assaiante Tennis Center on Saturday for the team's first league victory. The Bantams sit at 5-7 on the season and 1-4 in the conference, while the Camels fell to 4-8 and 0-6. Trinity remains at home to host conference opponent Amherst College on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. match.
At No. 1 doubles,
Henry Bilicic (Del Mar, Calif.) and
Rico Buoro (San Paulo, Brazil) took an easy 8-2 win over Aaron Fleishman and Jules Taylor-Kerman for the first match point for the Navy & Gold. The duo also secured wins at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1 and 3 (6-1, 6-4) singles in straight sets, respectively. For the final partners win,
Eduardo Sanchez-Carrion (Lima, Peru) and
Brandon Felcher (Westport, Conn.) played a close match with Krishh Tipnis and Andy Feldman for the 8-5 win to put Trinity up 2-1 after doubles.
Sanchez-Carrion only allowed three points in his 6-1, 6-2 solo match victory at No. 2, followed by two-set triumphs by
Jack Ginter (Pheonixville, Pa.) and
Pierce Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Ginter swept the first set 6-0, followed by a 6-3 win in the second. Rutledge only allowed one point in the 6-1 opening set victory, but pulled out a close 7-5 win in the next set.
