Trinity's Martin And Wilkie Earn All-American Men's Outdoor Track And Field Honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Travis Martin (New Haven, Conn.) wrapped up his final season for the Trinity College men's track & field team on Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 3:46.54 to earn All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at St. John Fisher College. In the 1,500-meter heats, Martin advanced to the finals with a time of 3:48.73 to place eighth out of 12 qualifiers. Martin was an All-American in the indoor mile in March, the 800 meters in March of 2022, and in the spring of 2021 when he placed fourth in the 1,500 meter finals. Martin attempted the win in the 2023 NCAA Championship 1500m final, leading the pack for majority of the race and challenging the Division III record holder Ryan Wilson of MIT, but ultimately he was caught on the final straightaway.

"Travis, one of the best in the country and one of best all time in Division III, could have sat with the field and kicked for a top spot, but instead ran for the win and ultimately fell short," Trinity Head Coach John Michael Mason noted. "We couldn't be more proud of his grit and determination today."

Junior Ethan Wilkie (Ellington, Conn.) finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 54'01.00" to earn All-American honors on Friday. Wilkie's toss was nine inches ahead of the eighth-place shot putter and nine behind sixth place, while Yakob Ekoue of Wisc.-Eau Claire was first at 57'10.25". Wilkie earned two points for the Bantams in the team standings, while  teammate Martin set to competed in the 1,500-meter finals on Saturday at 1:25 p.m.  Wilkie was an All-American in the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship, also finishing seventh in the shot put in that meet, but did not qualify for Nationals last spring and was 11th in the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in March.

"We are so proud of Ethan for how he competed this weekend," said Coach Mason.  "This is the third time at A National Championship for him, and he showed his experience by stepping up with his back against the wall and delivering when it counted. He rose to the occasion, and now walks away proudly as an All-American in one of the most competitive years in Division III track & field history."
