Trinity College Softball Unveils New Turf Field

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College softball team will play its home games in 2024 with the installation this summer of a new turf playing surface at Trinity Softball Field.  The new turf is one several ongoing changes on the diamond, as the venue was upgraded with expanded seating in 2023 which will soon become permanent and with a new press box and lights on the way.

"We are extremely grateful for the Trinity College athletic department for the renovation of the new turf field. The continual growth within the softball program is exciting and we cannot wait to see what the future of Trinity Softball looks like," Head Softball Coach Lena Springer said. "With the renovation of our field, we hope to provide a more enjoyable experience for our student-athletes and fans."

FieldTurf's premium Triple Threat artificial infill surface designed specifically for softball. To enhance playability, the infield has a combination infill of sand and ground olive pits, while the outfield has a combination of sand and cork. The entire playing field, as well as both bullpens and hitting cages feature the new surface.

"Introducing this new surface to our softball field will have an immediate impact on our student-athletes' ability to improve their games. We know this will lead to more outdoor practices in February and March and faster turnaround when inclement weather causes delays on gameday," Athletic Director Drew Galbraith said. "We've seen how a FieldTurf surface can positively impact several of our other teams and are thankful for the generosity of Bantam donors who allowed us to complete this project for our students."
