Andrew Nelson (Cohasset, Mass.) and
Luca Garbati (Holland Landing, Ontario) posted an undefeated 4-0 record on Saturday, while senior
Eduardo Sanchez-Carrion (Lima, Peru) and sophomore
Pierce Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) remained perfect with a 4-0 record on Sunday. The Navy & Gold travel to Bowdoin College on September 29 to October 1 for the ITA Regional Championships
"Overall we had a solid weekend at the Connecticut College Invitational, with two doubles partners going undefeated against strong tennis on Saturday and Sunday," head coach
Willy Nelson (2nd season) said. "The tournament was moved indoors and switched to a completely doubles tournament at split sites, Coast Guard and Conn College, but it benefited us as Eduardo and Pierce went 4-0 today and newcomers Andrew and Luca went undefeated on the first day.
A pair of doubles partners posted 5-3 overall records as Sanchez-Carrion and Rutledge, along with Nelson and Garbati, as the veterans had wins over each team at the tournament: Saint Michaels, Connecticut College, Springfield College and Coast Guard Academy. Sophomores
Brandon Felcher (Westport, Conn.) and
John Pope (New York, N.Y.) posted a 4-3 overall record in the two-day invitational.
Felcher and Pope picked off Tipnis and Regelman from Connecticut, 6-1, and continued to dominate with a 6-4 victory over Jackson Moser and Garrett Brooks from USCGA. Doubles partners junior
Bud Fisher (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and senior
Kartik Erodula (Hamden, Conn.) defeated Coast Guard's Carlander and Reice, 6-3.
Against host Connecticut College, duo Nelson and Garbati posted a 7-6 victory over Camels junior James Serhant and first-year Nikhil Agarwal. Junior
Jack Ginter (Phoenixville, Pa.) and sophomore
Rico Buoro (Sao Paolo, Brazil) collected a 6-1 victory over Connecticut College junior Andy Feldman and sophomore Maximo Gulla. Doubles partners Fisher and Erodula fell 6-3, while Sanchez-Carrion and Rutledge dropped their match, 6-2. Felcher and Pope fell 6-2 against the hosts.
Against Springfield College, the Bantams swept all five matches. Duos Fisher and Erodula, Sanchez-Carrion and Rutledge, and Ginter and Buoro all won their matches, 6-1. Nelson and Garbati picked up a 6-2 win, while Felcher and Pope notched a 6-2 victory as well.
Against St. Mary's, Nelson and Garbati remained in the win column, cruising to a 6-1 win. Felcher and Pope downed their opponents, 6-4, while Sanchez-Carrion and Rutledge suffered a 6-4 setback. Against the United States Coast Guard Academy, Nelson and Garbati picked up their fourth victory of the day, racing to a 6-0 victory. Ginter and Buoro tallied a 6-3 win, while the teams of Sanchez-Carrion and Rutledge (6-3) and Felcher and Pope (6-3) fell to their opponents.
