ITHACA, NY – #1Trinity Men's Squash propelled to victory over #6 Cornell University with a 7-2 score on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams grow their record 10-0, while the Big Red drop 7-3 overall.
Daniel Simon began the Bantams day with a 3-0 sweep against Cornell's Morgan Huberman (6-11, 3-11, 9-11) followed by sophomore Benedek Takacs with a 3-1 victory after a hard fought four set battle against Arnaav Sareen (7-11, 5-11, 11-9, 1-11). Trinity was served their first loss of the day in the match between Bantams Mohamed Sharaf and Cornell's Veer Chotrani, the Big Red was victorious with a three set sweep (11-8, 11-7, 11-9).
Trinity overpowered Cornell In the second round of rallies as sophomore Joachim Chuah Han Wen and Senior Ali El Tokhy collected 3-0 wins over their opponents. Graduate Julius Benthin added to the win streak with a 3-1 victory on the hardwood with set scores of 8-11, 11-9, 1-11, 5-11.
To wrap up the day of matches Danile Izham 11-13, 11-13, 7-11 and Khamal Cumberbatch 7-11, 5-11, 5-11 went on to serve their opponents three set losses. Izham's first two sets went into extra points, but he handled the back-to-back pressure well securing 13-11 wins. In the final match first year Andrik Lim Kai Shan kept his match alive with a third set win to make the score 2-1, but was unsuccessful in the fourth set falling 3-1 (11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9)
The Bantams will compete on Sunday, January 28th at Columbia University for a 1PM battle on the hardwood
