HARTFORD, Conn. -#3 Trinity Men's Squash upset the #1Â University of Pennsylvania in the George A. Kellner Squash Courts on Sunday with a 5-4 victory. The Bantams grow their record 13-0, while the UPenn drop 12-1 overall.
Marawan El Borolossy was bested in the first match on Sunday afternoon falling 3-1 with set scores of 11-4, 5-11, 8-11, 10-12. Sophomore Joachim Chuah Han Wan competed in an exhilarating five set match falling in the fifth after knotting the score 10-10, Nicholas Spissirri would collect the match win for UPenn 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-4, 10-12). Khamal Cumberbatch displayed a gritty performance on the hardwood as the match was played set for set, each squash player keeping themselves alive for four sets looking to settle it in the fifth. Upenn's Dana Santry downed Cumberbatch in the fifth set (11-13, 11-8, 10-12, 15-13, 7-11), lifting UPenn to a 3-0 lead on the day.
Bantams Aly El Tokhy and Benedek Takacs (11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-4) collect match points with victories of 3-1 on the hardwood. El Tokhy drew a crowd for his final set as he solidified the win after a 12-10 nail biter (11-6, 4-11, 11-8, 12-10). collect 3-0 victories on the hardwood, Bantams lead 3-2 in the match. Trinity surrendered another match as Princteons' Alastair Cho collected a five set victory over Benedek Takacs with set scores of 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 14-16, 12-14. The match is tied 3-3 heading into the final three matches of the day.
Senior Abdelrahmn Nassar lifted the Bantams to their first lead of the day, 4-3. Nassar won, holding his UPenn opponent to only 8 or less points in each set, collecting a 3-0 sweep (11-8, 11-8, 11-6). Mohamed Sharaf solidified the match victory after a four set rally winning with set scores of 12-10, 7-11, 11-5, 11-3, Bantams lead 5-3 with one match remaining. Danial Izham surrendered in the final set of his match.Â
Trinity Men's Squash will compete on Friday, Feb. 9th in the George A. Kellner Courts as they host #5 Yale University.
