PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - #1 Trinity Men's Squash secured a spot in the championship match of the Potter Cup after topping Yale, 5-4 on the hardwood. The final match is set to be played Sunday, March 3rd at 10:30AM against the #3 University of Pennsylvania.
Sophomore Joachim Chuah Han Wen once again snagged the first win of the day with 3-0 score as the Bantams locked 1-1 in the match. In the fourth spot senior Adbelrahman Nassar went on to record a clean sweep (3-0) to knot the score 2-2 to start the second wave of matches. Senior Mohamed Sharaf battled for five hard sets to solidify the Bantams' third win of the day after an exhilarating final rally that granted the Bantams the lead for the first time in the match, 3-2.
In the final wave of matches the Bantams trailed 4-3 to Yale with the number two and eight spots left to battle. Senior Ali El Tokhy left it all on the hardwood as he secured a 3-1 victory to knot the score 4-4. In the final individual match of the day, the ball started to bounce in senior Khamal Cumberbatch's favor as he came back from a two set deficit to lock the score 2-2. In the final set rally Cumberbatch displayed immense grit as he downed his Yale opponent to clinching the Bantams semifinal victory.
