Wendy Bartlett Retires After Four Decades as Head Women's Squash Coach

| By:

HARTFORD, Conn. – After 40 years at the helm of the Trinity College Women's Squash program, coaching legend Wendy Bartlett has announced her retirement from head coaching on Wednesday.

Under Bartlett's guidance the Trinity College Women's Squash program has appeared in 12 College Squash Association (CSA) National Championship finals with four National Championship victories in 2002, 2003, 2014 and most recently in 2024. Bartlett has coached four individual National Champions including Lulu Palacios, the 2024 Halloran West winner.

"I feel very honored and privileged to have been the head women's tennis and squash coach at Trinity College," said Bartlett. "To be able to coach, guide, and mentor young women has been my life's work for the past 40 years. Winning matches and championships are exciting and have always been part of my life as a coach. However, my long-term satisfaction has come from being involved with every player's growth and development, on and off the court. Nothing I have achieved would have been possible without the support of former Athletic Director Rick Hazelton and current Athletic Director Drew Galbraith. All the athletic department administrators, coaches and staff at Trinity are like family which, along with the incredibly special players on my teams, both past and present, I will miss very much."

Bartlett was honored as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Coach of the Year five times during her career as the Bantams captured 17 consecutive NESCAC Conference Championships.

"For forty years, success in women's racquet sports at Trinity has been synonymous with Wendy Bartlett," stated Trinity College Director of Athletics Drew Galbraith. "Beyond the four national championships in women's squash, the multitude of NESCAC championships, and the countless All-Americans, Wendy had a profound impact on the women on her teams. She is a teacher, mentor, role model and friend to legions of Bantam students. She bled blue and gold, and will always be a big part of the Trinity family."

Bartlett, a former Division I tennis player at Rollins College, joined Trinity College as the Women's Tennis coach in 1984, and would assume Head Women's Squash Coach duties later that year. During her 40 years as Head Coach, Bartlett has coached 60 different players who have earned CSA All-American honors, and Bartlett was inducted into the CSA Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
