MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Trinity College Men's Golf team finished 6th out of 23 teams at the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College, to kick off their fall season. First year Aidan Monahan claimed fourth place overall in his collegiate debut, finishing with a total of 144 (+3) after an even-par performance at the end of round 2.
Hamilton College won the title with a team score of +25, while Ramon Aroca Gonzalez led individually with a top score of 140 (-2) over the weekend.
After the first day of play, Trinity was in 5th place with a team score of 302 (+18). The Bantams fell to 6th place on the second day, as Endicott College overtook them following Trinity's +21 performance and a total score of 305. Freshman Aidan Monahan began Sunday in 8th place with a +3 score of 74, but he climbed to 4th place after shooting even par on the final day.
"This weekend wasn't the result we were hoping for," said Head Coach Jake Junge. "However, I'm really proud of the younger players for their strong performances and of the entire team for their effort down the stretch on Sunday. We'll use this as a learning experience. It will be a great week of practice, and we'll be ready to compete again at Williams."
Trinity College will travel to Williamstown, Mass., on September 21st for the two-day Williams Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College at Taconic Golf Club. The first round on Saturday will begin at 1 PM
