HARTFORD, Conn. – The 4th-ranked Trinity College Men's Squash team earned an 8-1 victory over visiting #10 Dartmouth College on Sunday afternoon at the George A. Kellner Squash Courts. With the win, the Bantams improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Big Green drop to 3-5 overall.
Bantams' Mateo Restrepo battled for 43 minutes against Dartmouth's Quintin Campbell, securing a 3-1 victory in the #3 spot (12-10, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9). Restrepo only faltered in the second set but fought back to win the next two.
Trinity's top two players, Joachim Chuah Han Wen and Benedek Takacs, both posted commanding 3-0 wins. Chuah defeated Christian Shah 11-8, 11-2, 11-5, while Takacs triumphed over William "Mac" Aube 11-7, 11-8, 11-4. Neither allowed their opponent to reach a set point higher than 8.
In the #4 match, Ahmed Ismail fought through a tough five-set battle against Callan Venkatesan, but ultimately fell 7-11 in the final set (10-12, 7-11, 11-1, 11-1, 7-11).
First-year Huzaifa Ibrahim made quick work of Felix Feldman, dispatching him 3-0 (11-7, 11-1, 11-3) at #5. Dmytro Shcherbakov followed suit with a 3-0 victory over Rana Thakkar at #6 (11-4, 11-6, 12-10).
Danial Izham dropped the second set but secured a 3-1 victory over Rohan Ray with back-to-back 11-4 wins in the third and fourth sets (6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-4). Finally, Andrik Lim opened strong with an 11-0 set win and went on to defeat Warren Klein 3-0 (11-0, 11-4, 11-8).
Next up, Trinity will have individuals competing at the College Squash Association Individual Championships, scheduled for Friday, January 24th through Monday, January 27th.
