Carrozza and Trickle Earn NWCA Division III Scholar All-Americans

| By:

HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College proudly celebrates the remarkable academic and athletic accomplishments of two exceptional wrestlers: junior Matthew Carrozza (Environmental Studies) and first-year Ty Trickle (Psychology). Both have been honored as National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the league Friday morning.

The NWCA Scholar All-American distinction is awarded to student-athletes who excel both on the mat and in the classroom. To qualify, recipients must achieve at least one of the following wrestling criteria: place in the top eight at the regional tournament or wrestle at least 15 matches with a win percentage greater than 66% (matches with teammates count only if they occurred in a tournament). Additionally, student-athletes must meet at least one academic requirement: maintain an average GPA of 3.2 over the last two semesters/quarters (or last three trimesters) or hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2.

First-year Trickle had a standout inaugural season for the Bantams, earning New England Wrestling Association Rookie of the Week honors (December 12) after a 4-1 record and a second-place finish at the RIT Tournament, where he defeated #15-ranked Michael Santore (Oswego) in the semifinals (11-5). Trickle continued his strong season through the NCAA DIII Regional Championship, where he placed sixth in the 141-pound weight class.

Junior Carrozza remains a consistent force in the 133-pound weight class for the Bantams, starting his season with a perfect 3-0 record at the NEWA Duals hosted by Johnson & Wales University. He also represented Trinity College at the NCAA DIII Regional Championship at 133 pounds. Among Carrozza's All-American honors, the junior was joined by teammates senior Nicholas Crotty, sophomore Daniel Echeverria, sophomore Andrew Pratt and sophomore Connor Tuttle in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic honors.
