Garbati, Rutledge Secure Singles Wins in Loss to Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The No. 58-ranked Trinity College men's tennis team dropped a 5–2 decision to Bates College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bantams fall to 6–6 overall and 1–6 in NESCAC play, while the Bobcats improve to 4–11 overall and 2–5 in the conference.

Trinity's two points came from gritty singles wins by Luca Garbati at No. 2 and Pierce Rutledge at No. 6. Garbati edged Theo Sardain in a three-set battle, winning 6–3, 4–6, 7–5. Rutledge delivered a commanding performance, defeating Nicolas Ozer in straight sets, 6–2, 6–2.

In doubles, Garbati and Axel Edstrom earned Trinity's lone victory, topping James Sacco and Nicolas Ozer, 6–4. The other two pairs fell in competitive matchups, including a tight tiebreaker loss at the top spot.

The Bantams return to action on Saturday, April 19, when they travel to Wesleyan for a 10 a.m. NESCAC matchup against the Cardinals.
