WORCESTER, Mass. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Rowing team captured a pair of victories in the 1V8 and the 1V4 at the 2025 New England Rowing Championships (NERC) at Lake Quinsigmond Saturday afternoon. The 2V8, 3V8, and 4V8 races were canceled due to high winds.
The Bantams 1V8 boat raced to the 2025 title with a time of 7:10.517, besting Wesleyan by more than nine seconds. Bates (7:23.192) took third, followed by Tufts University (7:24.150), Williams College (7:27.426), and MIT (7:34.030).
In the 3V4 race, Trinity cruised to the finish line with a time of 8:56.71, posting a 10-plus second victory over Colby (9:07.66) and Coast Guard (9:46.02).
"I'm really excited for the crew," said Trinity College Head Coach
Kevin MacDermott. "To experience winning the premier event at a championship regatta is truly special. They raced hard and well in really adverse conditions. A huge wind ahead of thunderstorms led to very choppy water and heavy, slow conditions. It is a determined group and they were well prepared to execute in the conditions. Everyone was thrilled for the 4 to win their event. Injury and illness have impacted this boat significantly, and they haven't been able to get much time on the water in the past month. But, things came together in the past week and they did a really great job getting across the line first."
"Unfortunately, finals for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4
th Varsity crews were cancelled due to high winds and thunderstorms," continued MacDermott. "All three crews were well-positioned to be successful in their respective finals. The 2
nd Varsity won their morning heat, and the 3
rd Varsity finished 2
nd in their heat. Along with the 4
th Varsity, I am really sorry that these crews weren't able to show their speed on the racecourse."
The Bantams will be back on the water for the NIRC/NESCAC Championship at Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, May 11.
