HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College women's cross country team opened the 2025 season with an individual title and an overall second-place finish at the George Suitor Invitational on Saturday morning at Wickham Park.
The meet began with a ceremony honoring retired Head Coach George Suitor, marking the renaming of the Trinity Invitational in his honor. Suitor served as Trinity's men's and women's cross country and track and field coach for 20 years before retiring in 2022, leaving a lasting impact on the program and the broader running community.
Trinity junior Paige Jaenicke claimed medalist honors with a winning time of 19:25.8, nearly 18 seconds ahead of the runner-up on the 5K course. Tufts University earned the team title with 36 points, placing five runners in the top 10.
Senior Ali Gall posted the third-fastest time in the women's 5K at 19:56.10, while senior Maggie Furrer finished ninth overall with a time of 20:35.00, rounding out the Bantams' top-10 performances.
"Today was a great home opener and a meaningful tribute to Coach Suitor," said Trinity Head Coach John Michael Mason. "Both our women's and men's teams represented Trinity well and showed that all the work they've been putting in will pay off if they keep stacking good weeks together. It was a good day to be a Bantam at the inaugural George Suitor Invitational."
Trinity returns to action at the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday, September 20 at 11:50 a.m.
