Niamh Kastner Earns NESCAC Weekly Honors

| By:
HADLEY, Mass. – Trinity College Women's Swimming senior Niamh Kastner (Williamsburg, Va.) was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday. Kastner takes home her second Swimmer of the Week honor after delivering a record-breaking week in the pool for the Bantams, setting four pool records and winning six of the eight events she swam over two meets.

On Tuesday, against Mount Holyoke and Vassar, the senior swam the butterfly leg (25.26) of the winning 200 medley relay, which set a Trinity pool record. Kastner swam the 200 butterfly, winning and breaking her own pool record with a time of 2:06.70. She also won the 100 butterfly and set another pool record-breaking time of 56.96, a record she has been chasing for three years. Finally, Kastner was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay, swimming the anchor leg in a time of 53.68. On Thursday, against Wesleyan, Kastner competed in a few off events to score points where needed. She was the freestyle leg of the winning 400 medley relay (55.03), which broke the Trinity pool record, and placed third and fourth in the 200 and 100 freestyle races, securing some much-needed points in those events. To wrap up the meet, Kastner was a member of the Bantams' mixed 400 freestyle relay that just out-touched Wesleyan.

Kastner and the Bantams will be back in the pool when they host Coast Guard at Trinity College Natatorium on Saturday, January 24 at 12:00 p.m.
