Mullin Finishes T6; Bantams Take Ninth in Division I Field

APALACHIN, N.Y. – The Trinity College men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational on Monday at The Links at Hiawatha Landing, finishing ninth overall in the 13-team field. The Bantams, the lone NCAA Division III program competing in the Division I tournament, finished the 36-hole event at 41-over par, led by junior Charlie Mullin's tied-for-sixth individual finish.

How It Happened

  • Trinity opened the tournament at 20-over par before carding a 21-over second round, finishing the two-day event at +41 and moving up three spots on the team leaderboard to place ninth overall.
  • The Bantams finished ahead of Division I programs Canisius (+42), Mercyhurst (+43), Wagner (+46) and Saint Peter's (+53).
  • Charlie Mullin led the Bantams with a two-over-par 146, carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E) to finish tied for sixth overall.
  • Mullin climbed 14 spots on the individual leaderboard during the tournament and closed Monday's final round with a two-under 34 on the back nine, recording birdies on holes 10, 12 and 18.
  • Thomas Chalfant finished tied for 34th at 154 (+10) following rounds of 74 and 80.
  • Aidan Monahan improved by three strokes in Monday's final round, carding a 76 (+4) after an opening-round 79 (+7) to finish tied for 45th at 155 (+11).
  • Parker Winn and Liam Chalfant each finished tied for 68th at 162 (+18) after matching rounds of 81 and 81.

Inside the Numbers

  • Trinity was the only NCAA Division III program in the 13-team field.
  • The Bantams finished ahead of four Division I programs and just six strokes behind eighth-place Binghamton (+35).
  • Mullin's T6 finish came against a field made up predominantly of Division I golfers and marked his second consecutive top-six finish after placing third at the Bowdoin Invitational.
  • Mullin recorded eight birdies over 36 holes, including four during his even-par final round.
  • Trinity finished just nine strokes behind sixth-place Laval (+32) and 10 strokes outside the top five.
