| By:

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 6 Trinity College women's squash team tamed the No. 9 Yale University Bulldogs, 7-2, Wednesday evening in the Barry Squash Courts. With the win, the Bantams improve to 8–4 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 2–6.

How It Happened

Bantam first-year Malak Aly (No. 5) and juniors Elisenda Ruiz Kaiser (No. 8) and Kitsy Fox (No. 9) downed their Bulldog opponents in straight sets. Each Trinity player held her opponent to nine points or fewer in every game, with Fox blanking Swetha Sivakumar in the opening set.

Seniors Hannah Chukwu (No. 2), Kara Lincou (No. 3), and Fabiola Cabello (No. 6) accounted for three more wins, each earning 3–1 victories. Chukwu and Lincou both bounced back after dropping a set, forcing a fourth to secure their matches. Lincou's second game went to extended play, as she rallied from a 10–8 deficit for a 13–11 triumph. Cabello fell in the second set, 11–8, but responded with a commanding 11–4 win in the third before closing the match with an 11–9 decision.

At No. 7, sophomore Varvara Kliueva opened with a pair of 11–7 wins. Yale's Whitney Taylor answered with back-to-back victories, including a 13–11 battle in the third, to even the match at two games apiece. Kliueva regrouped in the fifth, pulling away for an 11–6 win to secure the point.

Yale's two victories came at the top of the ladder and in the No. 4 spot. At No. 1, Heng Wai Wong claimed the first, third, and fourth games against Trinity's Thanusaa Uthrian. Uthrian earned a tight 11–9 win in the second to level the score before Wong regained control. In the fourth position, Varvara Esina pushed Elise Kang to five games, but the Bulldog took the final two — including a 13–11 extended fourth — to earn the match.
