Alper Registers 100th hit; Bantams Record a 2-0 day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bantams delivered dominant performances in both games Friday afternoon at Hancock Fields. Trinity defeated Framingham State University, 10–2, in six innings before securing a 14–5 run-rule victory over Fredonia in five innings.

Senior Abigail Alper recorded her 100th career hit against the Blue Devils in game two. The milestone came in the top of the second inning on a single down the left field line.

Game 1: Trinity 10, Framingham State 2 (6 inn.)

  • A heads-up defensive play helped Trinity hold Framingham scoreless in the opening inning. A hit back to pitcher Heather Roth resulted in a play at the plate to first-year Olivia Gallup, who fired to first to complete the double play.

  • The Bantams recorded two hits in the first but left three runners stranded. A fielder's choice with the bases loaded forced an out at home, followed by a groundout to end the inning.

  • Framingham struck first in the second inning with a solo home run by Gianna Paolino to take a 1–0 lead.

  • Trinity responded in the bottom half with five runs. Mikayla O'Brien singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Emily Killoran. Annika Haley followed with a double to right center, scoring O'Brien to tie the game. Alper then singled and advanced on a throwing error, putting runners on second and third. Sophomore Kellie Shroffner broke the game open with a three-run home run to left, giving Trinity a 4–1 lead. Makenna True later added an RBI single to cap the five-run inning and extend the lead to 5–1.

  • The Bantams added another run in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Katie Ruffer and Emily Goddard.

  • Framingham pushed across a run in the sixth after an error and wild pitch created an opportunity, with Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson delivering an RBI single to make it 6–2.

  • Trinity answered with a four-run bottom of the sixth to end the game via run rule. With the bases loaded, Gallup singled to center, scoring two runs. After a walk to Ashleigh Lent reloaded the bases, Haley added an RBI single. Alper then delivered a walk-off RBI single to center, scoring Gallup and sealing the 10–2 victory.

Game 2: Trinity 14, Fredonia 5 (5 inn.)

  • Trinity jumped out early with RBI hits from Katie Ruffer and Emily Goddard to take a 2–0 lead in the first inning.

  • Fredonia answered with a five-run bottom half. A two-run home run by Madison Lowe tied the game, and a series of hits—including a two-run single from Kate Kenny—gave the Blue Devils a 5–2 advantage. Kaysen Shikar entered in relief to record the final out of the inning.

  • The Bantams chipped away in the second. Avery Stadler made her collegiate debut and reached on a fielder's choice, while Alper followed with a single. Shroffner added an RBI single to cut the deficit, and later drove in another run to make it 5–4. An error allowed Alper to score, but Shroffner was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game.

  • The score remained 5–4 until the fourth inning. A ground-rule double set up runners in scoring position, and Ruffer delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 5–5.

  • Trinity erupted in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs to secure the run-rule victory. True led off with a double, and Lent followed with an RBI single. A series of defensive errors by Fredonia allowed additional runs to score, while Alper highlighted the inning with a two-run single. Goddard, Lent, and Connor each added RBI hits as the Bantams extended the lead to 14–5.

  • Trinity closed the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a strikeout to end the contest.
