MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Trinity College men's golf team opened its 2026-27 campaign with a 10th-place finish at the Duke Nelson Invitational, a 20-team tournament at Ralph Myhre Golf Course hosted by Middlebury College. The Bantams posted matching rounds of 28-over par to finish the two-day event at 56-over par, while
Thomas Chalfant led Trinity with a tied-for-fourth finish at six-over par.
How It Happened
- Chalfant paced the Bantams throughout the weekend, carding back-to-back rounds of 74 (+3) to finish at 148 (+6) and tied for fourth overall. Chalfant climbed six spots on the individual leaderboard during the final round.
- First year Ian Aitkenhead made one of the biggest moves of the final round, jumping 23 spots after shaving four strokes off his opening-round score. Aitkenhead followed a 79 (+8) with a 75 (+4) to finish tied for 27th at 154 (+12).
- Sophomore Mason Bowie finished tied for 73rd after rounds of 80 (+9) and 82 (+11) for a 162 (+20) two-day total.
- First year Teddy Halpin opened with a 79 (+8) before carding an 85 (+14) in the second round, finishing tied for 80th at 164 (+22).
- Sophomore Brian Campbell rounded out Trinity's lineup at 166 (+24), improving by four strokes in the final round with an 81 (+10) after an opening-round 85 (+14).
- Competing as an individual, first-year Liam Chalfant finished tied for 93rd at 167 (+25) following rounds of 81 (+10) and 86 (+15).
Inside the Numbers
- Trinity finished 10th among 20 teams at 56-over par, just one stroke behind ninth-place Williams and two strokes behind eighth-place St. Lawrence.
- The Bantams were consistent across both days, posting identical +28 team scores in Rounds 1 and 2.
- Thomas Chalfant's T4 finish led the Bantams and placed him just six strokes over par across 36 holes.
- Aitkenhead recorded Trinity's biggest second-round improvement, moving 23 positions up the leaderboard.
- Middlebury captured the team title at +26, three strokes ahead of second-place Skidmore (+29).
