Sharaf, a 2024 graduate, is currently serving as the Assistant Men's Squash Coach at Trinity while simultaneously competing on the Professional Squash Tour. In his role, he works closely with Head Coach Moustafa Hamada, drawing from his own playing experience and offering valuable insights into both the mental and emotional aspects of coaching and competition. Sharaf majored in psychology at Trinity, which has enhanced his understanding of the psychological elements of the sport.
During his junior year in 2023, Sharaf proudly represented Egypt as a member of the national squash team, consistently ranking in the top 8 of his age group. His collegiate journey was unconventional, missing his first year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he quickly found his rhythm upon returning. In his sophomore year, Sharaf played at the number 2 position on the ladder, earning second-team CSA All-American honors, first-team All-NESCAC recognition, and was named NESCAC Player of the Year.
By his junior year, Sharaf had moved to the number 1 spot and played a pivotal role in leading the team to the National Championship final as the 6th seed. A week later, he made history by becoming the Intercollegiate Nationals Singles Champion, the first Trinity player to win the title since the legendary Baset Chaudhry in 2009. Sharaf also earned first-team CSA All-American honors, was named NESCAC Player of the Year for the second time, and received first-team All-NESCAC accolades.
In his senior year, Sharaf was instrumental in guiding the team to an undefeated dual season and securing the number 1 seed at Nationals. Though the team fell short in the final after a hard-fought battle, Sharaf’s leadership and performance remained exceptional. A week later, he reached his second consecutive Intercollegiate Singles Championship final, but narrowly lost.
Over the course of his college squash career, Sharaf amassed an impressive 55-8 record and won 3 NESCAC titles. Now, as he continues to pursue his professional squash career, Sharaf is equally passionate about coaching and mentoring the next generation of players at Trinity, giving back to the sport that has shaped his life.
