Hartford, Conn. - Freshman Gina DiNallo
(West Hartford, Conn.) made nine saves to earn a shutout
in the cage and lead the Trinity College Bantams a 3-0 win over the
visiting Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this
afternoon on Robin L. Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 2
in the New England West Region and No. 9 in the nation, improves to
11-1 with its third consecutive victory, while the Pride,
ranked No. 1 in the New England East Region, drops to 10-5 with
their first loss in five games.
Trinity jumped on the Pride with a blast of a shot from eight
yards away by sophomore Robyn Williams (Bulawayo,
Zimbabwe) to take a 1-0 lead 3:25 into the game.
Trinity possessed the ball for the majority of the first half, but
the aggressive Pride put pressure on the Trinity goal whenever they
had the ball. Springfield earned several penalty corners in
the first half, but was unable to convert on al five of them.
The Bantams scored twice more in the final 10 minutes before the
break, as freshman Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.)
sent a shot in from just inside the circle on a clever Trinity
penalty corner and Williams scored her second goal of the game on
the second assist of the contest by classmate Christy
Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.). Trinity held its 3-0
lead throughout the second half, as both goalies were solid.
DiNallo made five of her nine stops in the second half, while
freshman goalie Kelleanne Salazar (Granby, Conn.)
entered the game at half and made five saves while holding the
Bantams scoreless.
