Trinity Field Hockey Shuts Out Springfield For Third Straight Win

Hartford, Conn. -   Freshman Gina DiNallo (West Hartford, Conn.) made nine saves to earn a shutout in the cage and lead the Trinity College Bantams a 3-0 win over the visiting Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this afternoon on Robin L. Sheppard Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the New England West Region and No. 9 in the nation, improves to 11-1 with its third consecutive victory, while the Pride, ranked No. 1 in the New England East Region, drops to 10-5 with their first loss in five games.

Trinity jumped on the Pride with a blast of a shot from eight yards away by sophomore Robyn Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) to take a 1-0 lead 3:25 into the game.  Trinity possessed the ball for the majority of the first half, but the aggressive Pride put pressure on the Trinity goal whenever they had the ball.  Springfield earned several penalty corners in the first half, but was unable to convert on al five of them.

The Bantams scored twice more in the final 10 minutes before the break, as freshman Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) sent a shot in from just inside the circle on a clever Trinity penalty corner and Williams scored her second goal of the game on the second assist of the contest by classmate Christy Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.).  Trinity held its 3-0 lead throughout the second half, as both goalies were solid.  DiNallo made five of her nine stops in the second half, while freshman goalie Kelleanne Salazar (Granby, Conn.) entered the game at half and made five saves while holding the Bantams scoreless.
